I’m not sure if it’s just me or if this applies to everyone…
In this fast-paced world that we live in today, does it seem to you that you find yourself waiting more now than you used to?
Let me give you some examples of what I’m talking about…
When it comes to “Fast Food” – exactly how long of a wait does it take before you consider it “Not so Fast Food”?
Ever notice that when you make a Purchase with a Debit Card, it only takes a few seconds for the transaction to show up against your account… But for some reason, if you request a “Refund” it generally takes 5 to 7 Business days for the money to be returned?
Have you ever noticed that when you’re in a Hurry to get somewhere, the Red Lights last Longer than normal?
What about when you have a Doctors Appointment at 11:00am, you show up 15 minutes early (as requested) but you do not see the doctor till 12:30pm?
Yes, we could go on and on about similar events and issues, couldn’t we?
Business is very Similar when you are first starting out…
We gather all the items and tools we think we need to get started, and we have acquired the basic skills we need to start generating an income…
Doesn’t it seem that it takes a while to see our first results…?
In the South, we have a couple of sayings that we could use to describe how we feel.
“It’s like watching the paint dry…”
“It’s like watching the grass grow…”
When we focus on the “Results” instead of focusing on the “Process”, our vision gets blurred…
My son just celebrated his 38th birthday. As a good dad would do…
Me – “Happy Birthday Old Man!”
Him – “Don’t Remind Me…”
Me – “Just remember, Your Grandparents were your age when you were born…”
(Crickets… 🦗🦗🦗 Ok, so they look more like grasshoppers, you must work with what you have 😉)
Reality sets in and we wonder where the Time has gone….
Ever Been There?
The first thing I would ask…
Who created the “Timeline for Your results”? Are you Comparing yourself to others that have been in the same business for 3, 4, 5… even 10 Years?
Have you been so busy watching for the Results that you have quit working on the Process?
My Mentor, Dean Holland, has a saying… “Follow the Process and the Results will come.”
According to Wikipedia: The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird holds the official Air Speed Record for a crewed airbreathing jet engine aircraft with a speed of 3,530 km/h (2,190 mph)
And get this…
The Space Shuttle has been measured at speeds over 17,000 miles per hour (27,359 kph), and the Apollo manned spacecraft traveled at 24,500 miles/hour (39,428 kph) between the earth and the moon ― the fastest a person has ever traveled. But much faster speeds are possible.
How is this relevant to your business? Glad you asked…
All these examples start at “Zero” on the runway or launch Pad. It’s only through dedication to design, form, function, and controls they were able to reach this kind of result… 🤔
Focus on the Process!
Harper Says:
Take a minute to reflect on how far you have come from the moment you started.
Realize what skills you have learned, and what achievements you have made.
Create Your Own measurement scale!
Soon, people will be looking at your results and you will have to share a similar post with them 😜
Great reminder. It can be easy to get discouraged sometimes when we don’t get the “success” as quickly as possible. But as another saying goes, it was an instant success, after years of work. I guess the main thing we need to do while we’re working towards that success is work in a sustainable way, don’t burn ourselves out, and don’t spend more money than we can afford to lose.
Nathan,
Great words of wisdom! I believe that we can get so wrapped up in trying to force things that we forget about our reason “Why” and we get to feeling discouraged. As Glenn stated the other day… ” Scheduling breaks is a good thing” I really think most of us forget that! Thanks for the comment!
