One of the first things I did, after starting our Business, was to get business cards. Thats what you need to do first, right? That way you can pass them out and let people know that your open for business 😬… That was my line of thinking anyway…
Off to a website to design my business cards. We came up with the name, as you know, from our first post… Now we had to design the logo, how it should look, with the colors, logo placement, wording, etc. Everything was in place, just the way we wanted.
We placed the order for the cards and couldn’t wait for them to come in. I had a lot of good feedback from close family and friends, even though they really didn’t understand the business. Truth be told, I didn’t understand the business !
When the cards finally came in, I started passing them out. Then I got my Bubble busted when someone asked…
What do you do?
“Well, I’m starting an Affiliate Marketing business”😁
What is Affiliate Marketing?
“It’s where you sell other people’s products, then work up to selling your own”😐
So what do you sell?
“Nothing yet, I’m just getting started…” 😞
>>😒<<
I guess I could have sold my business cards, because thats all I really had.
The lessons that we learned…
- Before you worry about advertising, YOU need to focus on your business.
- Before you try to explain what it is that you do, YOU need to know what it is that YOU do.
- Before you try to sell something to somebody, YOU need to have something to sell.

“Before you can Run, you need to learn to Walk, Before you can Walk, you need to learn to Crawl!”
(Sometimes the teacher has to become the student)
Hey David,
Thank you for sharing these valuable lessons. It’s a great reminder that success starts with a solid foundation. Before venturing into advertising or selling, understanding our business and what we have to offer is crucial. Sometimes taking the time to learn and master the basics is the key to long-term success. Wise words to keep in mind on this journey of growth and development. Thanks for the wisdom. all the best on this journey, and congratulation for your beautiful partner.
Ezequiel, Thank you for your comments and kind words. Sometimes we just choose to learn things the hard way. I’m glad I cam across Dean Holland and Internet profits when I did. Building this business is a lot easier with a coach beside you.
David beyond your lessons learned, I think one should always have a 30 second “elevator pitch” ready for when people DO ask you what you do. Such a statement can be re-used online as well.
Just answer all the questions asked in your “bubble busting” conversation in 30 seconds or less.
Good Luck!
Robert, Thank you for your comment. Funny you should mention the 30 Sec. pitch and I agree that when starting a business, it would be Great Advice … I ended up having a 45 minute conversation the other day with a friend of mine about what I did, and was doing, as an Affiliate Marketer. He was very interested and kept asking questions, so of course I kept answered. Once you get Excited about what you are doing, its hard to shrink it down to just 30 Sec… 🤣 I’ve come a long way from that first “Busted Bubble”…
Bahahahaha!! That totally feels like me! I just didn’t quite get to the business cards. Well, lesson #1 learned. Onward and upward!
Sharel, I was so excited to have a new business I just forgot to start it first! Your right though, one lesson learned, many more to go…
