Don’t make a Mountain out of a Mole Hill!
When I was young, I heard this phrase quite often… “Don’t make a Mountain out of a Mole Hill”. I may not have totally understood what they meant at the time, but as I got older, I began to understand what that saying meant.
So many times, we take something that in reality, should be a relatively small issue and we turn it into something that is a much larger issue than it ever needed to be.
Let me give you an example…
As a locksmith, I run across many situations which require urgent attention, and many that do not. A call about someone locked in a Freezer, or a Baby accidentally locked in a hot car qualify for the “Urgent Attention” category, whereas locking your keys in your car and now you are running late for a movie, late for picking up your groceries, or you’re hungry and need to get your car unlocked ASAP, would fall into the “NOT so Urgent” category.
I wrote a post not too long ago entitled “A Matter of Perspective”

You can follow the link above to take you there.
You see… it really depends on how you look at the situation you are in, and which side of the situation you are on.
If you are a mom, and have ever locked one of your kids in the car… You have the right to get upset. As a Locksmith, I understand what is going through your mind… Every “second” that passes seems like an “hour” … until the door is unlocked, and the child is in your arms… Am I Right?
Even though we have the right to panic, what purpose does it serve?
“Panic” never fixes the problem and sometimes it makes the problem worse.
All kinds of things happen which we cannot control, so why do we insist on wasting our time getting upset over what we cannot change? … Wouldn’t it make more sense to accept what we cannot change and focus on how to change what we can? Especially, if we don’t like the position in which we find ourselves…
The other day, I received notice of a sale I had made. One of my customers (a person on my email list) purchased a few items. The total cost of the items was $49.00. Now some of you reading this may be thinking, “That’s not a very big sale” and compared to the Millions that I will make in the future 😜🤔😁, you would be right… But, if you are in Affiliate Marketing, EVERY sale is a #WIN no matter how small it may seem to others.
I made a post in one of our training communities about the Sale we had made. I was excited and wanted to share the #WIN. Motivation and Encouragement can be gained and given by sharing with others, and in the earlier stages of building your online business, I believe these are two very important areas.
The customer, which made the purchase, sent an email to me about how precious she thought my “WHY” was, and she could see where I received my Motivation from.
I responded with a thank you email and also included in the email, if she ever had any questions, to let us know and we would answer them honestly and to the best of our ability.
A week later, I am filling out our “Tracking Sheet” (A sheet we use to keep up with the number of clicks on our ads, cost per click, cost per lead, overall ad cost, and of course the Best part… Commissions!)
Anyway… as we were filling out our tracking sheet, we noticed we had what we call a “Clawback”. This is where a purchase was originally made but for some reason the process was never completed. The worst part is you will probably never know why the order got cancelled… all you will know is you now have a negative number in your “Commissions” column.
It just happened to be from the very same customer which I had previously posted about. My #WIN had turned into a #🤷♂️😭🤮… You get my point…
I went to my list of customers to send an email to this customer and asked if there was a problem or if she changed her mind on making the purchase, only to find that she not only reversed the sale, she also “Unsubscribed” from my email list.
Out of respect, I chose not to email her. I will never know exactly what happened or why. Questions start running through your mind. Did my email scare her off? Did she not expect a “Human” to respond to her email? Did I say something wrong in the email I sent back? Did a family member apply pressure to suggest what she purchased wouldn’t work? (But that has never happened to anyone before… RIGHT 🤣)
Whatever the reason, she has the right to change her mind.
What I decide to do now… Well, it is totally up to me. I can roll on the ground, I can stomp my feet, I can fall on my Knees and SCREAM “WHY!!!!” at the top of my lungs, I could even say “I’m Done, I Quit, I Can’t do this”.
BUT I’M NOT GOING TOO!
MY “WHY” WON’T LET ME! 😁😁😁
What I will do…
Continue writing emails, building my list, presenting offers, making sales!
There is no reason to get Upset or Discouraged, it doesn’t change your situation. Pushing forward, continuing the steps in building your business, continuing to put in the hours and the work to learn and to grow… Now that is what can and will change your situation!
Don’t make a Mountain out of a Mole Hill! Learn from the process, and count that learning process as a #WIN!
Remember, It’s about the JOURNEY, not about the bumps and hills that you will have along the way. If you are learning, you are making progress. Continue to navigate the bumps along the way and you will reach your destination!
